Small Axe:
The History Lessons You Never Had
The BBC wanted to create a legacy for Steve McQueen's culture defining series, Small Axe beyond its broadcast. Steve McQueen was adament he didn’t want to spend any public money on ‘just’ promoting his series. He wanted to do something that has a positive impact.
We found out that black history is not mandatory on the national curriculum so we worked with BBC Teach to expand the curriculum with five documentaries based on the inspirational, true stories from his five film anthology that could be shown in schools.
