Research showed that 65% of female athletes had been affected by online trolls. To combat this horrifying statistic, we made Hate Won’t Win, showing BBC Sport’s zero tolerance stance against online hate and abuse.

We wrote a statement voiced by a female athlete who had been a victim of trolling. We hid her identity because in just speaking out, she would have become a target for abuse.

Sky Sports have since committed to joining the campaign.
